LLT offer two falls prevention training courses, plus a series of single CPD days to support falls prevention in NHS settings.

FaME (Falls Management Exercise) is delivered by Postural Stability Instructors (PSIs)

  • FaME is multi-component, progressive and tailored to achieve sufficient exercise dose for balance, strength, stamina and regain stepping reactions and skills to get up from the floor
  • FaME is evidenced to reduce falls in high risk (frequent fallers) and low risk (sedentary) older adults 65 and over (26-54% reduction in falls)
  • Postural Stability Instructors deliver FaME in small groups in community settings and support essential home exercise to supplement exercise dose
  • PSIs use evidence to inform session design, tailoring and progression, conversation skills to support behaviour change and engagement in home exercise programmes

Otago Exercise Programme (OEP)

Otago can be delivered in small groups or home-based (with home visits and calls) depending on your role and scope of practice so there are two courses depending on the setting you work. OEP NHS settings or OEP for exercise professionals working in the community/small groups

  • OEP Leaders are required to be working in partnership with clinical referrers/support if working with high-risk fallers
  • The OEP is a prescriptive and progressive programme of strength (functional and with ankle weights) and balance exercises with motivational support strategies
  • Otago is exercise evidenced to reduce falls in high-risk older adults aged 80 and over but also those aged 65+ who are frailer
  • OEP Leader training includes; theory content and practical skills to lead the 22 Otago exercises in small groups and conversation skills to support behaviour change and engagement in home exercise programmes
