Later Life Training have been working with NHS and Social Care staff for over 14 years – FaME (PSI) and Otago programmes are the most widely utilized programmes for falls prevention within the NHS (RCP report). We can work with you to establish, improve or advise on a broad range of issues to help support your provision. Please contact us to discuss your requirements we are committed to helping you find practicable solutions to local implementation challenges.
At LLT we are committed to supporting you to establish and develop evidence-based falls prevention exercise continuums for older people at risk of fall and in addition, to work towards strength and balance programmes/exercise provision accessible for all older people groups (independently active older adults, those in transition, the frail)).
Public Health England’s Falls and Fracture Consensus Statement released in July 2017 has recently been followed up with a Return on Investment Tool for the Assessment of Falls Prevention Programmes for Older People Living in the Community. Released on 15th February 2018, the ROI tool pulls together evidence on the effectiveness associated with costs of falls prevention interventions for older people living in the community. Of the four interventions included, Later Life Training’s evidence based programmes FaME (PSI) and OTAGO (OEP) both deliver significant ROI and are worth commissioning. This specifically in relation to quality adjusted life years, with societal ROI’s showing FaME (PSI) £2:28:£1:00 and OTAGO (OEP) £2:20:£1:00. OTAGO has been shown to work best for frailer older adults (management of falls), FaME (PSI) works in both primary and secondary (management) of falls. Wider benefits[1] of these programmes also include physical and mental health, social engagement and confidence to move more.
For a further information on OEP and FaME/PSI prevention exercise programmes, please see our statement on consistent and accurate messaging for Commissioners and Stakeholders working in frailty and falls prevention services.

[1] Wider benefits to physical and mental health outcomes:
FaME (PSI) delivered for 6 months, has been shown in published research to increase moderate to vigorous physical activity of an extra 15 mins per day – helping more older adults reach the Department of Health Physical Activity Guidelines for health. If home exercise is adhered to, they will also reach the strength and balance guidelines for health as well. This confers significant benefits to other health outcomes. FaME (PSI) has also been shown to improve walking speed and self efficacy.
